Zipmark, a mobile payments startup venture, has added a Revolution Money alum to its team.
Kenneth Douglas, who served as Revolution Money’s GM and VP Merchant Services, has joined the payment startup as its Head of Partnerships and Alliances. Douglas will report directly to Jay Bhattacharya, Zipmark’s chief executive.
Revolution Money was acquired by American Express and rebranded as Serve, the card issuer’s digital wallet offering.
Douglas is tasked with driving Zipmark’s worldwide strategic partnerships, alliances and channel relationships.
The Zipmark service allows consumers or businesses to pay for goods and services electronically. The idea is to act as a digital checkbook. Zipmark offers billers online and paper payment options. If billers send customers physical invoices, they can include bar codes on those documents, for example. In turn, consumers can scan the paper invoices’ barcodes with their smartphones’ cameras to pay the bills through the Zipmark app.
Most recently, Douglas served in exec management roles at two early stage companies, Twitpay and Adility.
“My first priority is to establish a strong presence for Zipmark within the payment industry with top processors, payment gateways and technology companies while creating awareness through these partnerships,” Douglas tells Bank Innovation. “The last half of 2012 will be focused on developing a number of key strategic partnerships and launching acceptance programs to drive adoption and transaction volume.”
