Totally agree --- I use online shopping sites like the big rainforest related one and, aside from a few work/gadget things, mostly get presents for other people on it --- gran, mum, wife, my kids, so the recommendations I am pushed are a mish mash of things that once upon a time were relevant 1 or 2 days out of 365. In the case of buying stuff for the kids, the rate of change from baby / toddler / pre school / etc means some highly unfashionable stuff chucked at me.

For the mobile retail side of things the location and track aspects could be useful --- but I can't help thinking it would suffer from the same problem as the online stuff --- a mish mash of things that would get in the way of my day to day activity. I can imagine walking past stores and getting pinged to my smartphone by retailers - like walking through some kind of low-rent version of minority report.

Could all this spell the end of day dreaming? Then where would ideas for grateful dead cover bands spring from?
