[Part two of a two-article series on social media traffic at the Top 20 U.S. banks. Part one is here.]
Bank of America Corp. is the largest bank in the United States by deposits. And on YouTube and Twitter.
According to a Bank Innovation analysis, Bank of America had more traffic from YouTube and Twitter than any of the Top 20 banks in the nation. More than 104,000 of BofA’s December 2012 web visits came from YouTube, better than double the nearest bank. Nearly 11,000 of visits to bankofamerica.com came from Twitter — most among the banks we looked at.
USAA leads all big banks in the share of its web traffic coming from social media. It is also tops in traffic from Facebook. More than 354,000 visits to usaa.com came from Facebook in December 2012, according to our analysis. Bank of America was not far behind with 324,000 visits from facebook.com.
Chase and Wells Fargo & Co. also garner notable traffic from YouTube, as well as from Facebook. SunTrust Banks Inc., too, received a significant amount of traffic from Facebook: more than 146,000 visits.
Ally Bank, known for its humorous TV spots, received just over 50% of its social media traffic coming from YouTube, but the raw number of visits — 24,000 visits — is relatively low.
(Banks with N/A for Twitter percentages means that Twitter was not among the Top 5 social media referrers for that bank.)
Join us at Bank Innovation 2013, where we will discuss the role of social media in banking.
