Nuance, a maker of voice and imaging solutions, has secured new business with a number of banks including PNC Bank, Banco Santander (Spain), Barclays (UK), Garanti Bank (Turkey), and USAA.
The announcement was made during the Burlington, Mass.-based company’s third quarter earnings report yesterday. Nuance’s third quarter ended June 30, 2013.
USAA is an existing Nuance customer. Nuance’s voice command technology known as Nina runs on USAA’s mobile app. Nina is a Siri-like virtual assistant in Nuance’s software that provides speech recognition, text-to-speech, voice biometrics and natural-language understanding.
US Bank also makes use of Nuance voice technology in a test with its FlexPerks travel rewards card. Nuance’s inclusion of USAA in yesterday’s announcement seems to indicate that USAA and Nuance have more ideas in development beyond the use of Nina.
Bank Innovation has reached out to PNC to find out what is planned for the Pittsburgh-based bank. PNC has garnered headlines recently for its pop-up branch in Atlanta, seen as a first step in increasing its footprint in the southeast US. An innovative mobile app, containing voice control technology from Nuance, could be an even more effective means of customer acquisition.
