No one will accuse bankers of being too cool. There are too many regulations for that.
But when you scratch the surface of the financial services sector today, as well as the economy broadly, you can find a host of ventures that are just downright fantastical. And behind those fantastical ventures are arguably some of the most creative people in business today. Being in banking might not play well at the bar of a Brooklyn club late into a Saturday night , but on this website, it will get you at least a fist bump. We know what goes into making a financial services brand cool, and we applaud the 10 companies deserving a listing on the list of Coolest Brands in Banking 2014.
This is our third annual ranking of the Coolest Brands in Banking. (Here are our lists for 2013 and 2012.) There is specifically no science here. We don’t define cool. We don’t quantify it. We can’t even say there is any theme that runs through each of the following 10 brands. Rather, we deploy an unabashed “you know it when you see it” methodology, which means you will certainly agree with some of our choices, while you will certainly not agree with others.
