Mobile banking is red hot, but it can still be difficult to determine which financial services apps are winning the most users.
It just so happens that both Apple and Google rank the most popular apps in the iOS App Store and Google Play, respectively. The list of the Top 20 most-downloaded free apps from both platforms is below. There is quite a bit of overlap in the lists, as well as some significant differences. (So it’s really 26 total, if you’re counting.)
Most prominently, Credit Karma, an app for understanding and improving one’s credit rating, is the top Android app, and 8th for iOS users, who tend to carry higher balances and make larger purchases. Peer-to-peer payments app Square Cash shows up on the Android side, while the IRS app appears on the iOS side. One tablet app appears — Wells Fargo for Tablet, #16 for Android apps. Many banks, such as Citi and USAA, both of which appear on both lists, maintain only one mobile app. Venmo, a P2P app much like Square Cash, is #9 on both lists.
Here are the lists. Both were retrieved Tuesday at approximately 12 PM Eastern time.
