With more customers turning to mobile banking, British bank Barclays announced today that it will close 54 branches by yearend to cut costs.
The closures, which will take place over the next four months, will bring the total number of branches shuttered by the bank to 67 this year.
Barclays currently operates about 1,300 branches within the United Kingdom.
Barclays is not the only British bank closing some of its physical doors this year. In the spring, Royal Bank of Scotland announced that it would close 180 branches in Britain and Ireland, while Lloyds Banking Group announced the close of 100 branches.
