Android customers of British neobank Monzo can now activate their new Monzo debit card by tapping the physical card on their phone, the British bank announced today.
The feature is a better way for users to join the world of digital payments, in a more efficient way than typing in a card number and all of their personal details.
Once an Android-carrying Monzo customer receives their debit card in the mail, they can simply open the app and tap the plastic to the phone to activate that card.
The feature uses NFC technology, which also supports contactless payments and Android Pay mobile payments for users.
This feature is only available for those Monzo users with Androids, thanks in part to Google’s open ecosystem. Monzo said in a blog post today:
One-tap card activation is available on Android because Google allows third party developers to build features for Android devices using NFC technology. That means engineers like us can build cool things like this! ????
