The fintech companies in the area around Brussels Airport, where two explosions killed at least 11 people today, that has become a fintech hub in recent months report no damage or terrorist activity.
ING Belgium this year opened the FinTech Village, and its offices are located about 2.5 miles from the airport. The accelerator has eight resident startups right now.
Four of FinTech Village’s startups are located in Belgium, one is in the United Kingdom and three are headquartered in Israel.
The FinTech Village is hosted in the offices of Eggsplore, which is active in the European fintech ecosystem. Eggsplore opened its Belgium operation this year. The venture has plans to open a co-working space for fintech startups also about 2.5 miles from the airport. Among the partners in Eggsplore are BNP Paribas Fortis, Euroclear, KBC, ING, McKinsey & Company, and SWIFT.
Eggsplore officials said via Twitter that everyone at their offices is OK, and there are no reported injuries among their employees, or from the FinTech Village.
Telenet Idealabs, a Dutch fintech accelerator, also has an outpost in Belgium, but not in the area around the airport.
In total, at least 26 people were killed and more than 130 injured in today’s terrorist attacks, as of 9:29 am ET.
@hornblass Hi, yes everything and everyone is ok @egg_splore, thank you for the concern 🙂
