Are you getting into the holiday spirit yet?
Google certainly is, at least in the U.K. The company unveiled a new holiday-themed campaign this morning: starting today until the end of the year, each time customers use Android Pay for their purchases, they will receive a virtual cracker in the app.
“Open the cracker to see if you’ve won one of over 100,000 gift cards that could be inside, including a £10 Costa Coffee gift card, a pair of tickets for ODEON Cinemas, a £500 House of Fraser gift card or a £500 Currys PC World gift card,” Pali Bhat, Google’s global head of payment products, said in a blogpost. With the first five purchases, users will also be able to collect virtual coins. Collecting five coins in total, will buy you a free coffee at Costa Coffee, according to Bhat. Google calls it #ShopTapReward.
First introduced in September, the adoption of Android Pay in the UK is still in its early stages, and Google hopes that this sort of marketing will encourage a more widespread adoption.
Besides the holiday crackers, the company also announced that starting today the Android Pay button will also be available within the Uber app in the UK market. The rideshare giant offers its own holiday giveaway: “Not only is it [Uber] a great transit option for getting those oversized shopping bags home, but starting later this week, you can get up to 50% off your next 10 rides (up to £5 per ride) when you use Android Pay,” Bhat said in the post.
Android Pay is currently available in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Poland and New Zealand, “with more countries coming soon,” according to Bhat.
