The major draw of auto payment programs is their ease: they are easy to set up, easy to use, and easy to forget about completely.
In fact, 35% of consumers noted that they had been enrolled in automatic payment programs (mainly for subscriptions) without even realizing it, a new study released yesterday by CreditCards found.
The survey of 1,002 Americans found that is happens most frequently with Gen Xers or millennial consumers, with Gen Xers particularly finding it “very difficult” to turn these auto payments off, and therefore leave it on and continue making payments.
Based on the participants surveyed, an estimated 9 million U.S. consumers are keeping their subscriptions, memberships, and other services for which they are charged rather than canceling them, according to CreditCards.
Of course, outside of subscriptions and memberships, auto pay is frequently becoming a more popular way for consumers to pay reoccurring bills (things that will occur every month like rent or electric, for instance).
