PayPal is continuing to drive forward with mobile and digital payments, announcing an expansion of its partnership with social media service Facebook that will allow users to send and request money with PayPal via Facebook Messenger. Messenger has over 1.2 billion users. PayPal has 218 million.
The expansion, announced today a day after the company reported favorable earnings, builds on the previous integration between the two services that let Facebook Messenger users link their PayPal accounts and shop through the payments service.
For Facebook, this move continues the trend of making Messenger a hub for financial service bots, integrations, and products, coming just a short time after it was announced that customers could use Apple Pay on the messaging platform.
For PayPal, the move merely increases the company’s presence online, as well as tightening its grip on the P2P space.
