Bank JPMorgan Chase is announcing new cashback rewards tied in with the use of mobile wallets for the first quarter of 2018, in an offering that will allow customers to “try—and enjoy—the convenience” of paying via mobile.
This is according to General Manager for Chase Freedom, BJ Mahoney, in a bank press release, which noted that cardholders of the bank’s Chase Freedom card (a tier below its popular Chase Sapphire card) could earn extra cashback if they began paying with mobile wallets.
Aside from its own mobile wallet, Chase Pay, the bank is also offering the extra rewards—5% cash back on up to $1,500 in purchases for the first three months of the quarter—if cardmembers use other mobile wallets.
Freedom cardholders can also pay with Apple, Android, or Samsung Pay for cashback, the bank said. The categories for rewards in the first quarter include gas station purchases and those with Internet or Cable providers such as Netflix and HULU.
This move follows several others by the bank to bring users to its mobile platform, most recently its Winter Village in NYC, where users could purchase goods exclusively through Chase Pay. Like many mobile wallets, the service has struggled with customer acquisition.
