TIO Networks Data Breach Compromised 1.6M Customers, PayPal Says

One of PayPal’s recent acquisitions, payments processor TIO Networks, has suffered a data breach that puts the information of 1.6 million of the processor’s customers at risk, the company said in a statement on Friday, December 1.

PayPal acquired the processor in July of this year. A review of the TIO network “has identified a potential compromise of personally identifiable information for approximately 1.6 million customers,” the company stated.

After discovering the breach, PayPal halted TIO operations in order to “protect customer data,” as well as part of “an ongoing investigation of security vulnerabilities of the TIO platform.”

The breach did not affect PayPal customers, as the TIO network runs separate from PayPal systems, the company stated.
