Mobile payment platform for Apple users, Apple Pay is now available in Brazil thanks to a partnership with the country’s biggest private lender, Itaú Unibanco Holding SA, the company announced today.
The launch comes after Apple CEO Tim Cook told listeners to the company’s Q1 2018 earnings call that users in the region would soon be able to use the service. Apple Pay will be exclusively available to Itaú Unibanco cardholders for a 90-day period, the bank said today.
The bank currently has about 1.2 million cardholders, who will be able to set up and use the app so long as they have an iPhone 6 or higher model.
Apple Pay is currently available to most users across Europe, the United States, and the United Kingdom, as well as consumers in countries including Taiwan, New Zealand, Singapore, and Japan.
