HSBC is now live on SWIFT gpi, the payments service meant to enhance cross-border payments around the globe, the company announced today.
While 160 banks are signed up for the payments service, HSBC marks “nearly” the 50th bank to start sending payments live, according to SWIFT. Over 90% of all payments on the gpi network are credited within 24 hours, according to the company, with 50% credited within half an hour.
HSBC’s announcement comes as SWIFT prepares to expand its gpi service to the Asia Pacific, the Verdict reported last week, which would allow financial institutions in Australia, China, Singapore, and Thailand to send real-time cross-border payments.
So far, partners in this region include Commonwealth Bank, Bank of China, Siam Commercial Bank, and Westpac, among others.
