Which of the nation’s 20 largest banks seem to have ticked off its customers most over the last year or so?
Try HSBC Bank, Sovereign Bank, RBS Citizens, TD Bank and SunTrust Banks.
Among the Top 20 banks by deposits in the nation, these five banks had the greatest rate of consumer complaints per 1 million deposit accounts, according to a Bank Innovation analysis of CFPB complaint data.
HSBC had nearly 108 consumer complaints per 1 million deposit accounts regarding its bank accounts and services from March 1, 2012, to date. That compares to just 7.21 complaints per millions of deposit accounts at Ally Bank.
The Top 20 banks with the fewest complaints per 1 million accounts were:
- Ally Bank
- Citibank
- Wells Fargo
- BB&T
- BMO Harris Bank
Bank of America, the nation’s largest bank, came in better than the mean with 31.43 complaints per 1 million deposit accounts.
Absolutely love this posting, thanks.
It is interesting that top 4 Banks on this list have a high amount of customers located in the Northeast part of the country. Perhaps they have a more vocal/critical customer. Conversly Citibank has relatively smaller retail banking channel which is where most of these compliants originate.
Interesting, Wells Fargo did a pretty good job of pissing me off. Had to go to the CEO to get them to honor agreements THEY HAD PUT IN WRITING regarding fees. I was a 30 year customer but will never trust them again.
One likely contributor to why Citibank was not among the highest complaint receivers is that in most states outside of NY the bank operates as a thrift — NOT a commercial banks — with the accompanying mindset.
Are there available marker share data as well for these banks?
