Chinese mobile payments platform WeChat Pay arrives in Italy, enabling Chinese shoppers to make purchases in the country. These transactions can be online or in stores.
WeChat Pay’s launch in Italy comes as a result of a partnership between WeChat parent company Tencent Trusted Partner, Italy’s Digital Retex and DOCOMO Digital, the European subsidiary of the digital payments company NTT Docomo.
Fausto Caprini, CEO of Digital Retex told Finextra in a release today:
For the very first time, WeChat Pay will be available in Italy to purchase goods in store. This app is the preferred in-store method of payment by Chinese shoppers. Retailers who quickly adapt to the Chinese consumer purchasing and payment habits will be able to win over the competition through the creation of a long-lasting relationship between their own brand and the shopper.
WeChat will be available in in Italy in the coming weeks.
